There are plenty of good softwares out there which can do the same job and which support french as a language. "Gimp" springs in mind, and it is free (The source code is available and therefore everyone can contribute to the development of the software, which is not the case for non-free softwares).

Salut everyone, I'm new to the forum! I know a little French, but as the last time I was in France was nearly 12 years ago, and I have little reason to speak French at home in New Zealand, I'm afraid my French is pretty bad I'm glad there are a few others here who also have English as a first language. Maybe our French will improve with time! I've been a fan of NCIS for a few years, but recently rediscovered Sean Murray (so McGee is obviously my favourite!)

Hi, I am French but last year I was living in Ontario, Canada and this year I am at university in England.
I am so glad there is an english section because I spend so much time reading english fanfictions than when I came on this forum, I start writting in English, completely forgetting it's a french site.

Anyway, I think the french voices are good but I personally think that there is nothing better than the actors' own voice. I mean, they are the ones who played the action, they are the ones into it.

For the relationships, I think they take a big part of the show. If you go on some fanfiction archives, you will see some scary pairings like Ducky/Abby or Gibbs/Fornell.

Well, I was just trying to give some topics for this forum which is a great idea anyway.

I agree, there are some very wierd pairings on english fanfiction sites. I think the scariest one is Ari/Kate personally. Haven't seen any Gibbs/Fornell, which I am greatful for. I love Fornell, he's awesome. My favorite recurring character.

I agree, I really don't like the Ari/Kate pairing especially when the author write that they are not dead, but have been living in hidding, blablabla...
When I started reading the Gibbs/Fornell story, I thought it was friendly stuff but when Gibbs asked to go in the bedroom, I stop there.

I've always wondered, when they translate NCIS into French, do the Zivaisms make any sense? Usually they're based on rhyming or similar sounding English words so I would think they get lost in translation.

Most of time, translation changes the sense of Zivaisms. In the french version on DVDs, it may happen that a Zivaisms is not translate (for exemple in 3x17 when Ziva says she's doing a "bat" nap). I think it's very difficult to translate too. Perhaps it's better to not translate whereas to translate very bad, but the fans lost a part of what NCIS is. That's why I prefer watch in english too.

I would like to answer to the question about the Zivaisms too, sorry if I'm not very understandable

Here is an exemple to illustrate what I'm about (to try) to explain It works almost the same every time.



First, we translate the word Ziva should have said in the expression she uses ("ogle" here, that is translated by "reluques" in french, and have the same meaning).
Then we try to find a word that looks like it or rhyme with it ("relookes" here, which has almost the same sonority, so that Ziva has a reason/excuse to make the mistake), and means "to give someone a new and better visual aspect" (And I realise I didn't choose the best exemple since this french word already comes from english ).

Of course we can't keep the meaning of the word "google" here, it's replaced by another word with another meaning, but we try to keep a joke in the sentence, and even if it's not always as funny as in english, the most important is that when french people look at the episode with our subtitles, they laugh at the Zivaisms (because it's a part of NCIS that can not be missed ).


Edit : And that is why I'm grateful to my parents who forced me to learn engish at school, so that I don't have to count on the subtitles to understand the true meaning in the original version

Well, actually I'm french ( like anybody here ? ) but I really try to speak english fluently everyday and that's why I usually watch tv series in English or NCIS with originals subtittles ( good quality moreover ) ..

Well my dream is to go to USA ... But I was really disappointed when I looked for the steps to get a " GREEN CARD " .. It'so unbelievable anybody want to go out there is not able .. I just hoped if I have a good job after studies and all to get outta there .. To see how's life .. how's people and all .. But it's over .. My dream has been terminated... Well I just wanted to talk about that here for since I learnt that .. I HATE my english teacher ..

Or if i failed into my studies, I hoped to be able to go there and been engaged in Marines or else .. But I'll have to have Green Card .. :'(
